โครงสร้างประโยคพื้นฐาน
คือ ประโยคที่ประกอบด้วยประโยคล้วน ใช้คำเฉพาะ มีใจความสมบูรณ์ ถูกต้องตามหลักภาษา
สื่อความหมายตรงไปตรงมาแต่อาจขาดความไพเราะ
นักภาษาศาสตร์ต่างแยกประโยคพื้นฐานไว้แตกต่างกันแต่ที่น่าสนใจคือของฮอร์นบีและไนดาที่แยกประโยคพื้นฐานไว้ใน
The Advanced Learner’s Dictionary of Current English ไว้
